Setting Up Company Values

Modified on Tue, 8 Sep at 6:46 AM

Company Values are the principles that guide your work — and in Lavalier they're more than a list. Every value you add gets probed in interviews and scored on your candidate comparisons, so culture fit becomes something you can actually measure.

Where to Find Company Values

  1. Click Company OS in the left navigation
  2. Click Company Values

If Lavalier set up your Company OS for you, you'll likely find a few values already here — pulled from your website during onboarding. Review them and make them yours.

Note: Owners and Recruiters can edit Company Values. Team Members can see them but not change them.

Adding a Value

  1. Click Edit on the Company Values section
  2. In the row at the bottom, enter a Value name
  3. Add a Description (optional) to explain what the value means in practice
  4. Click the + icon, or press Enter

Add as many as you like — most teams land somewhere between three and six. Each value you add is evaluated on every role, so a shorter, sharper list tends to produce better signal than an exhaustive one.

Editing, Reordering, and Removing

To edit: In edit mode, click into any value's name or description and type. Your changes save as soon as you click away.

To reorder: Drag a value by its handle. The order you set here is the order values appear everywhere else in Lavalier.

To remove: Click the trash icon on the value. It disappears right away, so double-check before you click.

Tip: Renaming a value starts it fresh. Assessments already recorded against the old name stay attached to that older wording rather than moving across, so tweak descriptions freely — but rename only when you genuinely mean to change the value, not just to reword it.

Where Your Values Show Up

Once your values are set, they flow through Lavalier automatically — there's nothing to turn on:

  • Interview questions — Lavalier spreads your values across the interview plan so each one gets probed somewhere in the loop. Open Structure & Questions on a role and you'll see a Company Values group listing all of your values, with a checkmark on the ones that already have questions; click any unchecked value to generate a question for it. Questions are written to draw out the behavior without naming the value outright.
  • Candidate compare — Completed interviews are scored against each value, and a Company Values section appears on your candidate comparison alongside skills and requirements.
  • Interview summary emails — The recap sent after an interview includes the same Company Values rows.
  • Intake meetings and AI Screening — Your values are part of the context Lavalier uses when generating intake questions and running screens.

What's next?

With your values in place:

Troubleshooting

Error: "This value already exists"

Solution: You already have a value with that name. Value names have to be unique, so either edit the existing one or pick different wording.

Error: "Please enter a value name"

Solution: A value needs a name before it can be saved. The description is optional, but the name isn't.

I don't see a Company Values option in Company OS

Solution: Company Values is rolling out gradually. If you don't see it yet, you'll find your values under Why We're Here in the meantime. Contact Lavalier support if you'd like it enabled.

I can see our values but can't change them

Solution: Editing Company Values requires Owner or Recruiter permissions. Ask an Owner on your account to make the change or update your permission level.

A value I added isn't showing up on a role's questions

Solution: Values are distributed across the stages in a role's interview plan, so a single value appears in one stage rather than all of them. Open Structure & Questions on the role and check the Company Values group — every value is listed there, and anything without a checkmark doesn't have a question yet. Click it to generate one.
